Inspired by the beautiful, traditional art of Japanese sashiko stitching 刺し子, we have put together a special 2-session craft workshop combining the best of both worlds--sashiko and pouch sewing. In the first 2-hour session, we'll share with you the basics of sashiko stitching on a hitomezashi 一目刺し pattern hanafukin (Japanese kitchen cloth) of your choice. Hitomezashi (one-stitch) is very fun and easy to do: complete all the stitching vertically, then horizontally across the fabric and finally the diagonal lines. You'll then bring home your hanafukin to complete the sashiko stitching before returning for another 2.5-hour session to turn your hanafukin into a lovely, drawstring pouch. No cutting or damage will be done to the hanafukin, preserving it in its original shape and size. It'll only be creatively turned into the base for your drawstring pouch, giving it more functionality. You can also opt to attend the sewing session only with your own hanafukin or do the basic sashiko session only.
